3DXTech's Gen 3 CarbonX™ CF-Nylon PA6 (1.75mm 500g - Black) is a filament formulated from a high quality carbon fiber reinforced PA6 copolymer. This filament is ideal for those who want an advanced structural component with advanced chemical and thermal resistance, combining excellent surface quality and ease of printing.  The Gen3 has a higher HDT than previous versions (147°C at .45MPa), allowing for extensive use in high temperature applications.

Combined with a water-soluble filament, CarbonX™ CF NYLON allows you to print parts with complex geometries and then dissolve the substrate in hot water.

CarbonX™ CF NYLON is compatible with virtually all desktop 3D printers with a heated bed. Note, however, that carbon fiber-reinforced filaments are abrasive and can wear out a brass or aluminum nozzle prematurely.  We recommend using a hardened steel nozzle.

Printing advice for CarbonX™  CF-Nylon PA6

  • Extruder: 240 - 270°C.  CarbonX™ CF nylon has better layer adhesion at higher temperatures.
  • Bed temperature: 80 - 100°C
  • Bed preparation: Polyimide tape or clean glass plate with ABS/Acetone binder (Cf ABS / Acetone Slurry)
  • Hardened nozzle: 0.4 mm or more
  • Layer height: The ideal layer height is 60% of the nozzle diameter.  We do not recommend printing layers smaller than 0.25 mm with carbon fiber. Layer heights less than 0.25 mm can create too much back pressure in the hot section and lead to poor feeding, blockages, rattling of the drive gear, and cracking in the filament.
  • Nylon Drying: Anyone who prints with nylon knows how quickly it can absorb moisture and the consequences this has on the quality of your print. We recommend drying nylon at 90°C for at least 4 hours, but this is a starting point.  Saturated nylon can take more than 24 hours to dry enough to make decent prints. Store the material in a dry place during printing and between print jobs to facilitate drying.
  • Overdried Nylon: One thing to note is that overdried nylon can be more difficult to dry and handle.  In fact, nylon likes a little moisture, otherwise, it is brittle and more difficult to handle.  Printing with nylon is so much fun!
