FDM material guide: carbon-filled materials

Carbon-filled filaments: stiffness, dimensional stability and lightweight parts

Carbon-filled filaments combine a polymer matrix, PLA, PETG, PA, PC or another base, with fibers that increase stiffness and often improve dimensional stability. They provide a technical matte finish and are useful for lightweight, accurate and low-deformation parts.

Why choose carbon-filled?

High stiffness, low deformation, professional appearance and good shape retention depending on the matrix.

What to watch

Fibers are abrasive: hardened nozzle recommended, adapted settings and printer compatibility should be checked.

The matrix matters

PLA-CF, PETG-CF, PA-CF and PC-CF do not perform the same: choose by heat, impact, moisture and final use.

Material advice : do not choose carbon-filled filament only for “more strength”: the matrix controls heat, impact and final resistance. Plan for a hardened nozzle and check drying requirements.
