Description

Kimya's ABS Kevlar® filament is an ABS reinforced with aramid fibers. Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene Kevlar (ABS Kevlar) is a composite filament enriched with aramid fibers, the Kimya ABS Kevlar 3D filament thus belongs to the family of styrenic polymers. With properties superior to standard ABS, it offers printed parts more resistant to friction and shock, and lightness. It is mainly designed for applications in the industrial or medical sectors, or for the printing of maintenance parts. This filament is REACH compliant.

Compatible with

  • Most 3D printers with a heated bed

Recommendation

  • For optimal quality, we advise you to print the ABS Kevlar filament between 250 and 270°C, at a speed of 40 to 70 mm/s, while taking care to print the first layer at reduced speed. As for the heating bed, it is advisable to print the filament between 90 and 110°C by adding a spray or ribbon and a raft to the printing plate in order to avoid any shrinkage or warping problems.
  • Because aramid fibers are sensitive to UV and moisture, ABS Kevlar® is not recommended for outdoor use. It should be stored away from humidity and at room temperature.

Features of material

ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene ) is a thermoplastic polymer. It is often used in everyday products (remote controls, LEGOS etc ...). It begins to soften at 90 ° C and melt at 190 ° C. ABS is heat resistant and is quite flexible. It will be suitable for printing small, precise and mechanical parts due to its higher resistance to heat and impacts. The use of ABS requires the systematic use of a heatbed to limit the effects of shrinkage, the main defect of this material.

ABS contains Styrene, which is emitted during melting in the form of fine particles, which can be dangerous for people with respiratory disorders and whose effects on humans are little known. As a precaution, we recommend you to use careened and filtered 3D printers in order to print in ABS, in dedicated empty spaces or spacious and ventilated place. Otherwise, please consider using the PLA filament, which does not present any known danger for the man until this day.
